Early Childhood Education

Why Study Early Childhood Education at RC

Majoring in Child Development prepares students for jobs in a variety of early care and education settings as well as in related fields working with children and families.

At the Center for Early Childhood and Education you will find a teaching lecture room, lab school classrooms, observation booths, a student resource and workspace, Pathway Hub, and more, all designed to give students hands–on experiences to prepare for their work in early childhood education settings.

Students are supported by instructors and lab school staff that serve as mentors. We seek to elevate our community through high-quality teaching practices modeled in our lab school and off campus mentor sites and opportunities for our students to refine their skills as they prepare for their future in the field of early childhood education. We know that our students will impact the lives of many children and families, and we seek to empower them in their role as advocates, innovators, collaborators, and educators.

Courses and Programs

Our courses are designed to create a community of learners. Students are welcome to share their perspectives and experiences, build respect across cultures and connect with their peers through an active learning approach. We value the diverse learning styles of students and seek to teach in ways that are both relevant and applicable. Just as young children learn through hands-on experiences, we believe that students thrive through active, collaborative instruction.
