Reedley College alum Sonny Vaccaro, who became one of the most successful and influential sports marketing executives in history, returns to Reedley College February 27 to talk about his book "Legends and Soles" and the movie "Air" which chronicles how he convinced Michael Jordan to sign an exclusive shoe contract with Nike. Sonny’s memoir was released internationally in 2025. The book details his improbable rise from a childhood in the tiny western Pennsylvania steel town of Trafford, his journey to Reedley College that changed his life forever, to his paradigm-changing decade-plus days at Nike, including tales from the so-called “Shoe Wars.” Director of Marketing and Communications and 20-year television journalist George Takata will have a fireside chat with Sonny about his legendary career in the McClarty Center for Fine and Performing Arts starting at 6pm. Admission is free. There is a VIP meet and greet opportunity at 5pm where you can get a personalized autographed copy of the book and a photo with Mr. Vaccaro for $100 per person. Space is limited to 50 people for the VIP session. Proceeds from this event will directly go towards our centennial celebration activities scheduled throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
