Crisis Do's and Dont's for Staff & Faculty

We want to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students during these unpredictable times. However, SCCCD Psychological Services is NOT a crisis/suicide hotline. Please contact us AFTER the following has been done:

DO call the campus or district police if:

• The student is having suicidal or homicidal thoughts. We cannot take these statements lightly. If you are unsure that the student is actively suicidal or homicidal, it’s better to be safe than sorry– call the police and a welfare check will be conducted.
• The student mentions that they are engaging in self-harm and/or have access to weapons (including medication) and intend on using them.
• There’s a student who tells you that another student has made suicidal or homicidal threats. Attempt to retrieve the student in question’s last name and ID#, and give this information to Campus PD. If the information is sent to you via email, call Campus PD and also forward them the information via email (they will let you know the email address).
• You can additionally tell the student to text HOME to 741741, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: (800)273-8255, or the Central Valley Suicide Prevention Hotline: (888) 506-5991

DO call Child Welfare Services if:

The student tells you that there has been abuse (physical, sexual, neglect, witnessing domestic violence) in their home and a minor was the victim or a witness to it. Retrieve as much information you can about this case and report it to:
