Crisis Do's and Dont's for Staff & Faculty

We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students. Please note that Reedley College Mental Health Services is NOT a crisis/suicide hotline.

DO call the campus or district police if:

  • A student expresses suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Do not take these statements lightly. If you are unsure if the student is actively suicidal or homicidal, always err on the side of caution and call the police for a welfare check.
  • A student mentions engaging in self-harm and/or has access to weapons (including medication) and intends to use them.
  • Another student reports suicidal or homicidal threats made by a peer. Attempt to get the threatened student's last name and ID#. Provide this information to Campus PD. If you receive this information via email, call Campus PD and then forward the email to them (they will provide the email address).

Additionally, you can provide students with these crisis resources:

  • Tiger Crisis Line: 833-646-1526
  • Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988
  • Crisis Text Line: Text "courage" to 741741

DO call Child Welfare Services if:

A student discloses abuse (physical, sexual, neglect, or witnessing domestic violence) where a minor was a victim or witness. Gather as much information as possible and report to the appropriate CWS office:

  • Fresno County CWS: (559) 600-8320
  • Madera County CWS: (559) 662-8300
