Concern for our Students, Employees and Communities

Apr 20, 2021

Good afternoon everyone –

Today a guilty verdict was handed down for the killing of George Floyd.  As President of Reedley College I recognize that these events can spark feelings of fear, pain, anger, and uncertainty for our students and our community.

Our Reedley College family stands for equitable treatment of all people, regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender identification, religion, ability, or age.  We also collectively express our sadness for those that have unfairly lost their lives to racial violence.

Reedley College is currently providing students with mental health resources and opportunities to voice their experiences, concerns, and ideas on how our community can oppose systemic racism.  We also continue to provide professional development for employees while working toward equitizing classroom practices.

I would like to reaffirm Reedley College’s role in opposing and dismantling systemic racism.  As educational practitioners, we acknowledge it is not enough to be “not racist.” We also recognize that regardless of one’s own race or ethnicity, every person has an individual perspective of racism, bias, and anti-racism.  We will continue to develop collective responses that oppose systematic racism and dismantle practices that potentially perpetuate racism at Reedley College.

Sincerely,

Buckely Signature
