The Purpose of Program Review

Program Review is a systematic way of assessing the effectiveness of our programs and services. It is a data driven process to ensure Sustainable Continuous Quality Improvement.

The purposes of program review are to:

  • Systematically assess instructional programs, student services and administrative services using quantitative, qualitative, and student learning data for the purpose of:
  • Improving student success and engagement
  • Program planning
  • Demonstrating, improving and communicating program effectiveness
  • Identifying program strengths and emerging trends
  • Facilitating improvements through substantiated goals and objectives
  • Identify how programs and services effectively support the mission and strategic plan of the college.
  • Influence curriculum, college planning, decision-making, and resource allocation
  • Promote collaboration and dialogue across disciplines
  • Ensure program information provided to students is accurate and accessible

Program Review and Resource Allocation Process

The Reedley College resource allocation process incorporates program review into the staffing and funding request processes. Programs identify one to three measurable goals for the two-year program review cycle, along with the activities the program will engage in to achieve each goal, the resources needed, and a justification of the need. The Program Review & Assessment Committee (PRAC) reviews resource requests and determines whether they were substantiated in the program review.

Staffing requests are forwarded to the Hiring Prioritization Workgroup of College Council to be reviewed and ranked. This ranking is presented to College Council and the President’s Advisory Council for final prioritization before being forwarded to the District Office by the Reedley College President.

Funding requests are shared with the program’s supervisor and vice president for comments and recommendations before being forwarded to the Special Funding Workgroup – consisting of directors/managers of grants and special funding sources – for review. Any requests not funded by special funding are forwarded to the Budget Management Committee for review.
