Vice President of Instruction Forums

Open Forums for the Reedley College Vice President of Instruction will be held on Tuesday, May 13 th at the McClarty Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Anyone is welcome to attend the forums in person or watch the livestream. The forums will be moderated. All questions of the candidates have been preselected and prescreened.  There will be no live questions asked in person or online.  ONLY the prescreen questions asked by the moderator will be given and answered.

Dr. Ruben Diaz

Dr. Ruben Diaz is currently interim Vice President of Instruction for Reedley College. After serving 21 years in the K-12 world and now for 3 years in higher education, Dr. Diaz has a wide experience of serving students in all areas of education. Ruben’s passion is finding ways to provide support for students to be successful in the classroom and in life. Building relationships as an educator, administrator, sports coach, mentor and colleague, he believes every time he meets someone, it’s an opportunity to connect and build a network for others to enjoy and utilize. Ruben’s passions include coaching sports (32 years of youth soccer) and watching his own kids play sports (soccer, water polo and esports) and enjoy their own successes.

Cherylyn Crill-Hornsby

I am a third-generation Central Valley educator with 17 years of experience in California community colleges, serving in both classified and academic leadership roles. My work at the college and district levels has built a reputation as a collaborative partner and advocate for faculty and student success. I’m passionate about creating institutional spaces where students are fully welcomed into the academic community and supported in achieving their goals. As we face new challenges in higher education, I bring the knowledge, experience, and commitment to help us navigate them - together.

Dr. Kurt Sterling

Dr. Kurt Sterling, a native of California’s Central Valley, brings a strong blend of industry and academic experience to his role in community college leadership. After spending a decade in the workforce following high school, he returned to higher education, ultimately embarking on a 17-year tenure as a biology faculty member. During that time, he was deeply involved in campus and district governance, serving on numerous committees and completing three terms as Academic Senate President. Since 2021, Dr. Sterling has served as an instructional dean at a small rural college within a multi-college district. In this capacity, he has overseen program review, accreditation processes, alternative scheduling models, program pathway development, and enrollment management initiatives.

Dr. Michelle Miller-Galaz

Dr. Michelle Miller-Galaz is the Dean of Instruction at Porterville College, where she leads academic programs with a focus on equity, innovation, and community engagement. With over a decade of higher education leadership, she brings expertise in grant writing, instructional development, mentoring, and strategic planning to support student success and institutional growth.

Dr. Jessica Moran

Dr. Jessica Moran is a dedicated leader with over a decade of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in higher education, currently serving as Dean of Instruction at the Merced College Los Banos Campus. Born and raised in California’s Central Valley and a first-generation college student, she is committed to educational access and community impact. Her academic journey includes earning a Ph.D. in Higher Education, reflecting her passion for student success and institutional growth.
