Reedley College LGBTQIA+ Resource Guide

Reedley College strives to provide an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and supports all students in achieving their educational goals. This resource guide has been created for LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, and allies to assist in finding services, support, and information.

This guide includes on-campus resources, local community organizations, national support networks, educational materials, and information about relevant policies and rights.

Campus Resources

Pride Club

A student-led organization promoting awareness, support, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ students. The club organizes events, discussions, and provides a safe space for all students.

Counseling Services

Confidential counseling support for all students, including specialized support for LGBTQIA+ students facing challenges related to identity, coming out, and other issues.

Educational Resources

LGBTQIA+ Terminology

Understanding terminology is important for creating an inclusive environment. Key terms include:

  • Gender Identity: A person's internal sense of being male, female, neither, both, or another gender.
  • Sexual Orientation: Pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attraction to men, women, both, neither, or other genders.
  • Transgender: Someone whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
  • Non-Binary: Gender identities that don't fit within the binary of male and female.

Policies & Rights

Campus Policies

Nondiscrimination Policy

Reedley College prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in all programs, activities, and employment.

Preferred Name Policy

Students may use their preferred name on class rosters, ID cards, and select college systems, even if they have not legally changed their name.

How to Update: Visit Student Services or submit a Preferred Name Request Form.

Gender-Inclusive Facilities

Reedley College provides gender-inclusive restrooms in several campus buildings. View the campus map for locations.
