Beware of Scholarship Scams

  • If you must pay money to get money, it might be a scam.
  • Legitimate scholarship foundations do not charge application fees;
  • Legitimate scholarship foundations cannot guarantee a scholarship;
  • If an offer seems suspicious, it's usually with good reason.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) cautions students to look for tell-tale’s lines:

  • "The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back."
  • "You can't get this information anywhere else."
  • "I just need your credit card or bank account number.”
  • "We'll do all the work."
  • "The scholarship will cost some money."

For more information visit the FTC's website.
