Reedley College Tutorial Center

The Reedley College Tutorial Center provides individual and small-group tutoring to any student who needs and wants to improve his or her class performance. Our work is aimed at helping students become strong independent learners by working to improve their subject understanding, study skills, and test preparation.

How does it work?

Tutoring is available in most classes by appointment and on a drop-in basis in some high-demand classes—like mathematics.  Tutoring appointments are a mix of small group and one-on-one sessions.  There is no cost or fee for tutoring—it is free to all currently registered students.  Hundreds of students from all over campus get tutoring each semester.  The tutors are other students here at college or former Reedley College students now at Fresno State or Fresno Pacific University.  Every tutor has been approved to tutor by an instructor teaching the class they are tutoring.

How do I get a tutor?

Getting a tutor is very simple.  Just come to the tutorial center and tell the receptionist that you are interested in getting tutored.  You will be asked to complete a Request for Tutoring form.  You will list your available time on the schedule and we will then call you as soon as we can schedule your first tutoring session.  Sometimes we will be able to schedule you right away, but generally we like to contact the tutor first to verify their availability.  For drop-in tutoring you simply come to the center anytime you need help and we have a drop-in tutor scheduled to work.  Drop-in tutoring schedules are posted in the center and on our website.  Schedules are updated frequently.

Does tutoring really help?

Yes, it does.  Our students find that their grades and subject comprehension do improve.  They also tell us that they develop more confidence in their abilities.  You can apply for tutoring at any time during the semester, but the sooner you come in, the better the chance we have of helping you make a significant improvement in your work.

Does the Tutorial Center do anything other than provide tutoring?

Because of the special importance good study skills have to your success in college, the tutorial center maintains an extensive collection of reference materials on study skills development which are available for you to use.  These materials include textbooks, pamphlets, and audio and video programs.  Among the many topics are lecture note-taking, test-taking, textbook study, memorization, and study scheduling.  Personal guidance and advising on study skills improvement is also available.

Where can I apply or get more information?

Come to the Tutorial Center (Library Building, Room LRC 111) to sign up or to get more information.  You may also telephone the center at (559) 638-0358, or e-mail the tutorial center coordinator.
