MISSION STATEMENT

The High Tech Center (HTC) is a lab designed to provide access for students with disabilities to computers with adaptive technology.  The High Tech Center offers students with disabilities the opportunity to use adaptive computer software and technology to aid in their progress to success.  In addition to computer access the High Tech Center also provides various other services from alternate media to general information about computer programs and applications.

What can the High Tech Center do for you?

The High Tech Center provides students with disabilities an adaptive computer lab.  The lab is equipped with five adaptive computer workstations, a printer, and a scanner.  In addition to general computer applications and programs (i.e., Microsoft word, excel, internet explorer, etc.), the High Tech Center offers adaptive computer software, various adaptive technology, and alternate media (Go to High Tech Center Adaptive Computer Programs and Technology for a list/description of High Tech Center accommodations).

High Tech Center Adaptive Computer Programs and Technology

The following list describes several accommodations provided by the High Tech Center.

 

Adaptive Computer Software: The adaptive computer software is designed to provide accommodations for physical and learning disabilities. The software is capable of modifying text to speech, voice recognition, enlarging text, and  project planning. Software includes Kurweil, Text Help4, Inspiration, and Dragon Naturally Speaking (library only).

 

Various Adaptive Technology: Adjustable tables, Adjustable computer monitors, adaptive mice/track balls, wrist rests, document holders, flat screens, adjustable chairs, and ergonomic keyboards.

 

Alternate Media: Includes Braille, large print or audio MP3 files.  Alternate media assists students understand written course materials and text information by converting the text into an alternative format.

Who is eligible to use the High Tech Center?

Individuals who have a verified disability and are receiving services from Disabled Students Program and Services are eligible to use the High Tech Center.  For more information regarding disability verification please refer to the DSP&S home page.

Where is the High Tech Center located?

The High Tech Center is located next door to the Disabled Students Program and Service office and is in the Assessment Center.  The building is in the center of campus, directly South of the Library (across the field) and North of the Food Services building.
