What is CalWORKs?

The California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids program at Reedley College is designed to help recipients of cash aid get through college in a short amount of time, with special services that make it easy.  If you receive cash aid from a county welfare department, have children, and are enrolled in college or want to sign up for college, you can participate in CalWORKs at Reedley College or at Clovis, Madera or Oakhurst Centers.

If you attend Reedley College while receiving aid you may be eligible for:

  • Child Care Assistance
  • Job Training Programs
  • Career, Academic and Personal Counseling
  • Work Study
  • Textbooks
  • Job Placement

We can help you with child care

Finally, you can go to school and not worry about child care.  While you attend classes and educational activities you may be able to cleave your infant or toddler on campus with the Reedley College Child Care Program.  You'll get priority acceptance for enrollment.  If you use an off-campus child care provider, CalWORKs will help you with the expenses.

We can help you put extra money in your pocket

Our Work Study program will help you find a job on campus or with a private employer.  You'll gain valuable job skills and get a paycheck in addition to your regular cash aid grant.  This is a great way to make extra money while you're on aid.  The Work Study program is designed to help you earn money, gain job skills, and prepare you for employment when you're finished with school.  You may also be eligible for additional cash grants through financial aid.

Give us a call to join the CalWORKs program at Reedley College.  Or have your Job Specialist, Case Manager, or Self-Sufficiency Counselor refer you to our program.  Call us to learn about options for public transportation.
