Child Development

The Child Development Program Reedley College offers two Associate degrees and several certificate programs. We seek to provide Child Development students with a strong foundation in the early childhood education and development of the young child and a strong value for diversity within the context of a rich and complex society. The care and education of young children demands a high level of personal and professional integrity and enthusiasm.


We strive to help our students develop the core knowledge of caring for young children and supporting their families and community. We seek to inspire our students with the enthusiasm of the field of Child Development and create a learning environment both in the classroom and lab program that provides students the necessary tools to achieve the highest academic and professional success.


Childhood Development (AS)

This degree provides students with a two year, intensive, transferable degree which meets state and licensing requirements for the Child Development Permit. Students complete 30 units in Child Development including various intern and work experience courses. The AS in Early Childhood Development trains students to become teachers of young children in a variety of preschool and educational settings. The program is relevant for preschool and elementary school teachers, educational program directors, recreation leaders, parents and potential parents. The college has a full-service Child Development Center that serves as the lab school for the Child Development program


Child Development (CA)

The certificates of achievement provide students with an opportunity to specialize in several areas, achieved the required units to go into the workforce, and have the opportunity to continue reaching their educational goals.

The field of early child care and education has many opportunities. Because of the increasing need for child care outside the family, well prepared early childhood educators are in great demand. A certificate or degree in Child Development from Fresno City College provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience to obtain a job in a variety of different program types.
