Recent and on-going changes in technology have intensified the demand for technicians in all phases of the heavy equipment industry. A recent study identified shortages of over 6,000 technician positions among equipment dealers nationwide. Career opportunities are available in construction, agriculture, trucking, mining, waste processing, forestry, marine and industrial engines, and material handling.

What about MONEY?

Upon graduation, expect to earn in excess of $20,000. Many companies offer comprehensive benefit programs in addition to your base salary. Depending upon company location, your skill level and time in grade, your earnings potential can reach $60,000 to $90,000 or more.

Career opportunities include…

Equipment Technician: Diagnose and repair machine engines, power trains, electric/electronic and hydraulic systems. Interact with customers and co-workers to facilitate efficient and timely repairs.
Truck Engine Technician: Diagnose and repair truck engine problems in a timely and efficient manner. May also be responsible for chassis, brake and transmission systems.
Parts Warehousing:
Receive, store and distribute parts, material, tools, equipment and other products.
Parts/Service Sales: Direct contact with customers for the sale of company parts or service programs. Evaluate customer needs, estimate costs and repair time. Direct customers in the use of repair and maintenance services.
Service Supervision: Coordinate customer service and repair schedules. Prepare service quotes, interact directly with customers, organize and distribute parts and service paperwork. Supervise repair technicians.
Parts/Service Management: Direct activities of parts and/or service departments. Oversee employee development, manage department budget, control expenses, inventories, charge out rates and resolve customer problems.
